The new plan-making system
The Hillingdon Local Plan will now be produced under the government’s new plan-making system, which was introduced in March 2026. The new system aims to be a faster system and more streamlined approach, with the aim of creating shorter and clearer Local Plans. It includes a 30-month timeline for creating and adopting Local Plans, supporting the Government’s commitment to achieving universal Local Plan coverage across England. The council published its notice of intention to commence local plan preparation under the new system on 12 May 2026.
