Supporting military families
We understand that military life can involve regular moves, short-notice postings, deployment and periods of separation.
Education support
If you are a military family planning a move to Hillingdon or have recently arrived, contact your child's school for advice and support. Schools are experienced in helping children settle into a new environment and make a successful start.
Whether you are moving to the borough, applying for a school place or looking for additional support, help is available.
To help schools provide the right support, keep them informed about:
- planned moves
- deployments
- periods of separation
- any changes that may affect your child's education or wellbeing.
The more a school understands about your child's circumstances, the better they can support them.
Service Pupil Premium (SPP)
The SPP is funding for schools to support children from Armed Forces families. It helps schools provide pastoral support and assist children during periods of change, such as changing schools or when a parent is deployed.
Your child may be eligible if you or your partner:
- are currently serving in the Armed Forces
- have served in the Armed Forces within the last six years
- died while serving in the Armed Forces.
To help the school receive this funding, tell your child's school about their service family status before the autumn school census, which takes place on the first Thursday in October.
For more information, visit the service pupil premium page on GOV.UK.
