Where will I live?

Specialist circumstances and needs

Everyone's situation is different, and some young people may have circumstances that affect the type of housing and support they need.

Whatever your circumstance, we'll work with you to understand your situation and plan the right support.

Immigration status and no recourse to public funds

Your immigration status affects whether you can access benefits, social housing and homelessness support.

If your immigration status has not yet been decided, this does not automatically mean you have no recourse to public funds.

Your personal adviser will help you get the right immigration advice and make sure you have any identity or immigration documents you need.

Your Pathway Plan should include different options for possible immigration outcomes, so you can plan ahead.

Domestic abuse or grooming

If you feel unsafe where you are staying, including because of domestic abuse or grooming, get in touch with your personal adviser or the duty personal adviser as soon as possible.

Planning when you leave custody

If you are due to leave custody, planning for where you will live and the support you need should start as early as possible.

Your personal adviser will work with you, along with our Housing Service and Youth Justice Service, and prison resettlement staff, to help you prepare for your release.

Your plan should cover your release date, licence or risk restrictions, safe areas, identification, benefits, medication, transport, accommodation, and support on the first day and beyond.

If your release date changes, this information should be shared as soon as possible.

If you are released unexpectedly or do not have a safe place to stay, get in touch with your personal adviser or the duty personal adviser, who will assess your situation and help you access support.

Young parent

If you're a young parent, your Pathway Plan and/or Personal Housing Plan if it’s with the Homelessness Service should consider dependent children, childcare, bedroom need, affordability and any children’s services' involvement to find you somewhere suitable to live.

Disability health and neurodiversity

If you have a disability, health condition or are neurodivergent, we'll work with you to make sure your accommodation and support needs are taken into account.

This may include making sure the accommodation is accessible, considering any home adaptations you need, and looking at how close accomodation is to treatment or support.

Living outside Hillingdon

If you live outside Hillingdon, your personal adviser will continue to support you based on your legal status and individual circumstances.

When planning your accommodation and support, we'll consider local services, travel, support networks and liasing with the authority where you live.

Aged 16 or 17

If you are aged 16 or 17 and become homeless or are at risk of homelessness, Children's Services will work with you to identify safe and suitable accommodation and any support you may need.

If you're worried about where you will stay, contact your personal adviser as soon as possible, so they can help you understand your options and plan your next steps.
