Stronger Communities

Hillingdon Council is committed to promoting equality of opportunity and eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation. It celebrates and values diversity, promoting good relations within and between communities.

Building stronger communities together

The council's aim is, "along with its partners, to create a strong and resilient community in Hillingdon, to counter extremism and hate in all its forms, while bringing communities together to promote cohesion and integration. To build a strong sense of belonging and pride where all people feel valued and included, whether living, working within, or visiting the borough."

Working with our partners, we aim to create strong and resilient communities in Hillingdon. We work to counter hate and extremism, bring communities together and create a sense of belonging where everyone feels valued and included.

Initiatives

We work with a wide range of partners to deliver activities that help build stronger communities across Hillingdon. These include the Junior Citizens programme, which helps year 6 pupils prepare for secondary school and become more independent, working with the fire service, Brunel University and other partners.

We also work with schools to help students feel confident in challenging hate and discrimination and promote greater understanding, respect and unity.

We celebrate Hillingdon’s diverse communities and work with faith groups and the Hillingdon Interfaith Community to promote understanding and strengthen relationships between faith communities.

Stronger Communities Forum

The forum brings together representatives from the council and a range of organisations, charities and community groups. It meets to discuss challenges, opportunities and good news stories, sharing ideas and experiences to improve understanding and promote social cohesion in Hillingdon.

We welcome participation from groups across the borough that are interested in building stronger communities, countering hate and extremism and bringing people together.
