Go All In for 2026. National Year of Reading is a nationwide celebration designed to inspire a love of reading across all ages and communities. 

Whether you’re into novels, comics, audiobooks, poetry, or a bit of everything, Hillingdon Libraries invites you to explore, connect, and celebrate reading throughout the year.

Why reading matters

Reading for pleasure can: 

  • improve wellbeing and reduce stress 
  • boost literacy and confidence 
  • bring people together through shared stories 
  • spark creativity and imagination.

Events, activities and initiatives

Throughout 2026, our libraries will be hosting an exciting programme of events, activities and initiatives. These are all aimed at encouraging reading for pleasure and include:

  • author talks and readings 
  • workshops and creative sessions 
  • reading challenges 
  • community book clubs 
  • pop-up library visits across the borough 
  • seasonal celebrations and themed programmes.
