Hillingdon Council’s social media respectful use guidelines

The council uses a variety of digital channels to communicate with residents, businesses and visitors to share news, updates and important alerts.

The council’s social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Nextdoor, TikTok, WhatsApp and X are managed by council officers and monitored Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm, except on public holidays.

While we welcome interaction and engagement from those who see our posts, we will not tolerate abusive comments on our platforms. We will delete or hide posts we believe to be offensive or spreading misinformation and reserve the right to mute or block users whose comments are considered unreasonable.

Respectful use policy

The council has a responsibility to ensure its social media accounts are a safe space for everyone.

  1. Comments of a racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or xenophobic nature will be deleted.
  2. Any comments posted with the intent of spreading misleading or false information will be removed.
  3. We reserve the right to hide or delete comments that aren't related to the original post.

What you can expect from our social media channels

  • All content published by the council across its social media channels will be factual, relevant and timely and relevant to the channel audiences.
  • The information shared on social media will always be accurate to the best of our understanding; however, mistakes may occasionally happen. We will aim to correct any mistakes if they do occur.
