The council is carrying out flood risk improvement works in Pinn Meadows to help protect homes and businesses in North Ruislip.
The project will use Natural Flood Management measures to slow, store and manage flood water during periods of heavy rainfall. These improvements will help reduce the risk of flooding from both the River Pinn and surface water, while also enhancing the local environment.
Planned improvements
The proposed works are scheduled for early October to early December 2026 and will:
- restore Elma's Ditch to a more natural channel, helping to slow the flow of water into the River Pinn
- increase the River Pinn's capacity during heavy rainfall and reduce the risk of flooding
- extend the existing groundwater pond to create a larger attenuation basin for temporary flood water storage
- improve existing outfall pipes so ditches and basins can drain more effectively during drier periods
- help ensure flood storage areas are available for future storm events
- reinstate the existing flood defence bund to help keep flood water within Pinn Meadows and protect nearby properties
- complement the leaky barriers already installed upstream in Park Wood as part of a wider flood risk management approach.
These improvements will help reduce flood risk, improve local habitats and restore a more natural watercourse through Pinn Meadows.
