We are committed to putting our residents first. This means championing the health and wellbeing of older people through a wide range of programmes contained in our Older People’s Plan.
We are proposing to replace the Older People’s Plan with the Hillingdon Age Friendly Plan. This new plan will be based on the World Health Organisation age‑friendly framework to support better health and wellbeing as people age.
We want your help to identify the key priorities for the new Hillingdon Age Friendly Plan. Your feedback will help shape how we support older people in the borough and meet the ageing well priorities of the health and wellbeing strategy.
The Age Friendly Framework
The World Health Organisation has called for a decade of healthy ageing from 2021 to 2030. The aim is to improve the lives of older people, their families and the communities they live in.
A key part of this work is creating age friendly communities. These communities support older people to stay healthy, independent and active so they can live fuller lives, for longer.
Age friendly communities focus on action across eight areas:
- housing
- transportation
- outdoor spaces and buildings
- community support and health services
- communication and information
- social participation
- respect and social inclusion
- civil participation and employment.
