- To request an appeal please put your reasons in writing within one month of the date of decision, and include any extra evidence.
- We will look at the decision again, and if we can, we will change the decision in your favour.
- If we can’t change the decision in your favour, we will prepare a file with our reasons and all the evidence and submit it to the Tribunals Service which is an independent body not connected to the council.
- You can request to attend the appeal hearing in person or with a representative.
- We aim to submit appeals to the tribunals service within 50 days, but it does often take longer.
- You might want to consider legal advice if you decide to request an appeal.

Council tax reduction appeals
- If you have previously requested a revision and the decision was upheld, you have 2 months from the date of our decision to request an independent appeal direct to the valuation tribunal.
- Appeals for council tax reduction cannot be accepted by Hillingdon Council even if you are disputing a decision made relates to housing benefit.
Valuation tribunal
- The valuation tribunal, is an independent body not connected to the council. A council tax reduction appeal is made separately.
- You can request to attend the appeal hearing in person or with a representative.
- A valuation tribunal is restricted to considering whether the correct decision has been made in accordance with the rules of the council tax reduction scheme of Hillingdon Council.
- Appeals to the valuation tribunal can be made on their website.
- Alternatively you can write to them at 2nd Floor, 120 Leman Street, London, E1 8EU. You must advise them what you are disputing and why you are disputing it.
