Ultra Low Emission Zone

What is the Ultra Low Emission Zone?

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) initiative was introduced by The Mayor of London in 2019 with the aim to help reduce London's air pollution.

If you drive anywhere within the ULEZ, including the expanded area and your vehicle does not meet the emission standards, you could face a daily charge. This includes residents within the ULEZ. You will not be required to pay the ULEZ charge if you are parked inside the zone and don't drive.

You can check your destination to find out if it is within the ULEZ charging zones on TFL's website.

Is your vehicle compliant?

This applies to:

  • cars
  • motorcycles
  • vans
  • specialist vehicles (up to and including 3.5 tonnes)
  • minibuses (up to and including 5 tonnes)

Scrappage scheme

The Mayor of London has launched a new scrappage scheme providing financial assistance to help London residents scrap their vehicles if they do not meet ULEZ standards to prepare for the expansion of ULEZ across all London boroughs.

Check the TfL website to see if your vehicle is eligible, how much financial assistance you could receive and how to apply.

Payment fraud

You should always use TFL's official online payment process to pay the Ultra Low Emission Zone charge. Please check TFL's website for more information on fraud payments.
