We are looking for council tenants and leaseholders to join our housing service Resident Scrutiny Panel.
The panel is a small group of residents who look at housing services, ask questions about how they are performing and work with the council to identify improvements.
By sharing your experiences and views, you can help us understand what matters to residents and improve how housing services are delivered.
Why get involved?
As a panel member, you can:
- make a difference – help improve housing services for current and future residents
- influence improvements – help hold housing services to account and contribute to decisions about how services can be improved
- have your voice heard – use your experiences as a resident to help shape how services are delivered
- develop useful skills – build your confidence and experience in scrutiny, communication, problem-solving, teamwork and leadership
- meet new people – work with other residents, council officers and managers on issues that matter locally
- receive training and support – learn more about housing services, resident scrutiny and effective questioning
- support your personal development – gain skills and experience that may help with future opportunities
- claim eligible expenses – you will not be left out of pocket for taking part. Eligible expenses can be claimed in line with the council's Incentives and Expenses Policy.
Who can apply?
We welcome applications from council tenants and leaseholders from a range of backgrounds and experiences. You do not need to have been involved with the council or your community before.
We particularly welcome applications from residents whose voices may not always be heard, including younger residents, working residents and people who are new to resident involvement.
We want the panel to include a range of experiences and perspectives so that housing services reflect residents' needs.
How it works
The panel will meet approximately every six weeks, either in person or online.
You should expect to spend around 3 to 5 hours each month:
- attending meetings
- reviewing information
- taking part in scrutiny activities.
Training and ongoing support will be provided.
If you are invited to meet with us, this will be a chance to talk through the role, ask questions and make sure the panel is right for you.
Before applying, read the following supporting documents for further information about the role:
How to take part
Complete the short application form to let us know you are interested in joining this panel.
If you need help completing the application, would like the information in another format or would like to speak to someone before applying, email residentempowerment@hillingdon.gov.uk.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal meeting with council staff and a current resident member of the Scrutiny Panel. This will be a friendly opportunity to talk about the role, ask questions and help everyone decide whether the panel is the right fit.
