Hillingdon Council is inviting families to enjoy a packed programme of activities this October school break, from Halloween crafts and theatre workshops to a magical Harry Potter Book Day.

For youngsters with a flair for performing, the council’s popular theatre workshops return to the Compass Theatre in Ickenham from 28 to 30 October. Suitable for children aged six to 14, attendees will have the opportunity to perform songs and scenes from popular shows including Wicked, Descendants, Hocus Pocus and The Addams Family.

The one-day workshop costs £35 per child, or £90 for the three-day package. Find out more at discover.hillingdon.gov.uk/halloween-workshop.

Booklovers and fans of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry won’t want to miss the free Harry Potter Book Day, which takes place in the Great Barn at Manor Farm, Ruislip, on Thursday 29 October, from 10am to 2pm.

Visitors can expect a magical day full of stories, crafts and wizard-themed fun with dressing-up encouraged. A prize for the best costume will be presented by the Mayor of Hillingdon. The event is free and open to all ages. Find out more and book at discover.hillingdon.gov.uk/harry-potter-book-day.

Halloween meets history at the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre, where children aged five to 16 can create their own bat glider or pumpkin parachute during free spookily-themed crafts sessions.

A family-friendly tour of the top-secret underground bunker will also be available on Thursday 29 October, specially adapted for younger visitors. Tickets are £14 or free for under-16s.

Pipsqueaks! toddler story sessions return on 24, 30 and 31 October with children encouraged to wear Halloween fancy dress. Perfect for children aged 18 months to three years (babies are also welcome), sessions cost £2.50 per child, with two accompanying adults going free.
