Hillingdon Council is delighted to announce new arrangements giving residents more choices and making it easier to dispose of household waste with access to a new recycling centre and the continuation of its popular Pop-Up Waste Drop service.

From Wednesday15 July, residents will be able to use the Space Waye Reuse and Recycling Centre near Heathrow, which is open seven days a week, increasing the availability of waste and recycling services across the borough.

The council is also making its Pop-Up Waste Drop service permanent following a successful trial, which saw almost 29 tonnes of unwanted and bulky waste (equivalent to about 1,800 washing machines) collected from more than 920 visitors at 10 sessions across the borough.

The free-to-use service will continue every two weeks, rotating across targeted locations throughout the borough, including at least six sessions in Yiewsley and West Drayton during the next year.

This expanded offer follows a review of the council’s West Drayton Waste Weekend service, which will close from Monday 21 December. Once again, the council has demonstrated its ability to enhance services while reducing costs, with the changes saving Hillingdon taxpayers more than £300,000 a year. The move forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to delivering better services for less through a more efficient and modern approach to service delivery, while providing an enhanced offer that better meets residents’ needs.

Residents will be able to continue using the Waste Weekend service as usual, up until its final weekend of 19 and 20 December.

Harefield Civic Amenity Site is also available to all borough residents with visitors able to dispose of an expansive range of waste items from vapes and coffee pods to lithium-ion batteries.

Cllr Wayne Bridges, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents Services, said: “We know that Hillingdon’s waste and recycling services are among the best in the country, and something our residents consistently tell us they value highly. By introducing this additional facility, we are making it even easier for residents to dispose of their household waste—particularly larger items—by offering more convenient and flexible options across the borough.”

"The opportunity to use Space Waye will particularly benefit residents in the south of the borough, who are further from Harefield. As the service operates seven days a week - unlike the existing weekend-only provision in West Drayton - it will deliver a significant improvement in accessibility.

“While our free Pop-Up Waste Drop events, which have proved extremely popular, especially for those with limited mobility or no vehicle access, will continue to bring waste collections to your local neighbourhoods.”
