Work to enhance accessibility to Hillingdon Council’s Harefield Civic Amenity Site is set to begin this autumn, paving the way for future upgrades that will improve residents’ experience.
The first phase will see New Years Green Lane road widened to help alleviate traffic and reduce peak time congestion at the junction with Harvil Road, increasing safety for all road users.
A section of New Years Green Lane immediately to the south of the site will need to be temporarily closed to allow for the works to be carried out, but residents will still be able to access the site from the north, via Harvil Road.
The upgrade will also enable the next phase of approved plans for land next to the site to begin, including the demolition of unused buildings to create new staff facilities, an education hub, and new recycling bays for items such as furniture, small electricals and bikes to be repaired and resold.
Relocating staff facilities and parking to the adjacent land will free up space on the existing site to expand the recycling area and allow for better traffic flow and safety.
Cllr Wayne Bridges, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents Services, said: “These improvements will significantly enhance road safety and ease traffic flow in the area making access to the site easier for our residents.
“It’s also an important step forward in delivering a more efficient, and community-focused waste management facility for the future.
“We have worked in partnership with the West London Waste Authority to fund the road improvement works which will, in turn, help to support better recycling in the borough, and we’d like to thank the authority for its support.”
