Hillingdon Council is urging residents to be extra vigilant about what they’re putting out with their recycling and general waste following a fire at Harefield Civic Amenity Site last night (Monday 23 March).
Teams from across the council worked closely alongside the London Fire Brigade (LFB), who were quick to arrive, to get the fire under control and minimise the impact.
A fire watch remained in place overnight, to identify reignitions and recall LFB officers to dampen down hotspots.
The site remains closed today (Tuesday 24 March) while council officers assess any damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Cllr Wayne Bridges, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Environment, said: “I’d like to thank the London Fire Brigade and council officers for their quick response, which helped minimise the impact of this fire.
“Incidents like this, while rare, highlight the importance of checking what’s being put out with waste and recycling. Residents can find out more about what they can and cannot recycle on the council’s website.”
