Ceremony schedule and certificates

At all ceremonies, couples will be invited to sign a marriage / civil partnership schedule (an A4 document).

Up to 4 parents (mother, father, stepmother and stepfather) can be included in the schedule and, subsequently, on the marriage / civil partnership certificate.

Ceremonies at our venues and approved marriage and civil partnership venues

Couples will not receive a certificate on the day of the ceremony. 

The certificate will be processed within 10 working days and posted to the couple.

Marriages / civil partnerships in religious buildings

Couples will not receive a certificate on the day of the ceremony. 

Couples are expected to return the signed schedule to the Register Office in the district where the ceremony took place, within 21 days.

Once returned the signed schedule has been returned, a certificate can be ordered online.

The certificate will be processed within 10 working days and can be either posted or collected.

Please note:

  • If you have been through a legal marriage or civil partnership ceremony in another country and have a certificate from that country, there is no requirement to register it in the UK.
  • You will not be entitled to a British marriage or civil partnership certificate, if your marriage took place elsewhere.
