HS2 is the government's proposal for a new, high speed north-south railway. The proposal is being taken forward in two phases. Phase one connects London with Birmingham and the West Midlands, phase two extends the route to Manchester, Leeds and further north. Please note that phase two of HS2 was cancelled by the government in 2023.
Programme update
HS2 has released details that show the updated timescales for the remaining civils construction works in Hillingdon followed by the proposed handover to rail systems installation. These dates are indicative and are subject to change.

Proposal
The scale of the project is vast. The map below provides a brief overview of some of the main HS2 features to be built in the borough. Hillingdon will see a disproportionate amount of impact with no benefits and will continue to fight for a reduction in the vast amount of harm, and a mitigation package that is commensurate with the scale of destruction.
The government's public consultation began on 28 February 2011 and ended 29 July 2011, covering the following:
- a proposed route from London to Birmingham, with a link to HS1.
- a strategy for a Y-shaped network linking London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, with a spur to Heathrow.
