Breakspear Road South road closure for white lining and de-vegetation works
Following the road closure of Breakspear Road South by Network Rail for 1 week in July 2026 to repair damage to the Chiltern Bridge caused by a HGV Striking the Bridge, there were requests from Network Rail for works that could be done to mitigate future Bridge Strikes.
The works below are being done by HS2/SCS so they have requested a road closure of Breakspear Road South at the Chiltern Bridge on Saturday 3 October from 7am to 1pm to carry out:
- white lining of the carriageway (refresh centre line and carriageway edge markings)
- de-vegetation and litter pick around this area.
HS2/SCS are conscious of the upcoming road closure of Newyears Green Lane between Monday 5 October and Tuesday 15 December and would like to get these works done before that.
There is also the consideration of safety, with the white lines visibly faded in this section so it will be good to get these refreshed ahead of the winter period.
Access for emergency services vehicles will also be maintained throughout the road closure. The diversion route via Ruislip is shown on the Map below.
Newyears Green Lane road closure for road widening and resurfacing
There will be a road closure along Newyears Green Lane for road widening and resurfacing, currently scheduled to take place between Monday 5 October to Tuesday 15 December.
During this time the section of Newyears Green Lane shown in the map will be closed to all traffic. These works are not HS2 related.
Access to the Civic Amenity Site is maintained from Harvil Road, but access for BFA Recycling and other businesses and residents with be from the Breakspear Road South side of Newyears Green Lane.
These are works to widen the width of a section of the road to allow better access to an increased capacity Civic Amenity Site and to allow for carriageway resurfacing.
HS2 Community Investment project - Bourne Primary School May 2025
HS2's London tunnels contractor, Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture (SCS), in collaboration with subcontractor Dawson WAM has supported Bourne Primary School in South Ruislip by delivering essential repairs and enhancements to school facilities, including restoration of areas affected by flooding.
Working closely with the school, HS2's contractor, SCS, helped identify a range of improvements that would benefit both staff and students. These included:
- installation of astro turf in the play area
- construction of fencing for the wraparound care area for younger children
- replacement of two ageing garden sheds
- weeding and re-shingling of the school's gardening area
- pruning of overgrown trees and bushes in the car park
- relocation of the main school sign at the front entrance.
HS2 ANPR camera installations
ANPR cameras have been installed at locations on roads across the north of the borough as part of the HS2 vehicle route compliance system in Hillingdon. The ANPR cameras capture real-time data of HS2 vehicles to make sure they are using the HS2 approved routes. The system will also be able to provide accurate HS2 lorry numbers at any location on the network. This data will help HS2 in policing lorries that are are non-compliant.
These cameras have been configured to only capture data related to HS2 lorries, no other vehicle data will be captured or stored. This is part of a network of cameras being rolled out across London boroughs that have HS2 sites and will be managed by HS2/SCS, with a dashboard being developed to allow the council access to the data.
The cameras have been installed at all site entrance and exits in Hillingdon and on lamp columns at the following locations across the road network:
- Moorhall Road - junction with Harvil Road
- Moorhall Road
- Field End Road - near Halfords
- Field End Road - near Esso Garage
- Victoria Road
- Woodstock Drive
- Ickenham Road
- Long Lane
- Swakeleys Road - Westbound
- Swakeleys Road - Eastbound
- Station Approach
- West End Road
- Breakspear Road South
- Swakeleys Roundabout
- Harvil Road
The council will monitor the feasibility of additional camera locations to capture off-route HS2 lorries travelling around areas such as Breakspear Road and Newyears Green Lane (if the HS2 site cameras at these locations do not provide the necessary coverage required).
The cameras will look similar to the image below, and each lamp column holding a camera will have the HS2 signage as shown below (to make it easily identifiable as to what they are there for).
