Proposed changes to how Telecare services may be delivered in the future

Telecare helps many residents to live safely and independently in their own homes through a range of alarms, sensors and support services. As technology continues to develop and demand for services changes, the council is reviewing how Telecare is provided to ensure it remains reliable, responsive and able to meet residents' needs in the years ahead.

As part of this consultation, the council are seeking feedback on three proposals:

  • changing how new Telecare referrals are made, with new users accessing the service through an external provider rather than directly through the council
  • moving some existing Telecare users to a service delivered on the council's behalf by an external provider
  • introducing a weekly charge of £5.67 for adult Telecare users.

An external provider is an organisation appointed by the council to deliver some or all aspects of the service. This could include taking referrals, installing and maintaining equipment, providing support and response services, and managing customer enquiries.

No decisions have been made. The purpose of this consultation is to gather feedback from residents, carers, families, advocacy organisations and other stakeholders who may be affected by these proposals.
